“The 1916 Song Project” is a traditional song research and performance project devised and produced by Michael Fortune and Aileen Lambert with the support of The Arts Department of Wexford County Council, The Arts Council of Ireland, the National Library of Ireland and the Irish Traditional Music Archive.
The project involves Michael and Aileen working with ten of Ireland finest traditional singers and commissioning the writing of new songs based on the events of 1916.
Two new songs will be written concerning events in Co. Wexford, whilst many songs of the period will be researched and sung over the course of the project.
The Wexford singers involved include Paddy Berry and Paul O’Reilly. A concert featuring all the ten singers will be performed in Enniscorthy in April 2016, accompanied by whilst a talk Therese McIntyre on ‘Songs of 1916’.
